There’s a good chance you’ve already heard Ally Burnett and just didn’t know it. Perhaps you were watching an episode of Jersey Shore and heard one of the three songs she’s had placed in the series. Or maybe you walked into a Hot Topic store and heard her pop/rock music blasting through their in-store stereo system. Maybe you heard her on Friendzone, The Hills or The City, or maybe even her theme song for The Seven. If you are, however, completely unfamiliar with the California bred and Alabama based singer/songwriter, maybe it’s time you remedied that.
MTV didn’t hail Ally as a “superstar-in-training” for nothing; the feisty redhead has seen an admirable amount of success considering her lack of things like a record label, manager or publicist. In fact, after a particularly well placed song in an episode of Jersey Shore, the singer sold more than 13,000 songs in just one month. Not bad for an artist that is one hundred percent independent.
Burnett credits what success she has seen with being driven, focused and immensely passionate about the music she makes. She started singing at just 4 years old, spent her entire childhood and her teenage years in choir, theater and vocal coaching and started fronting bands at the age of 18. Burnett fronted powerpop groups like Atlanta based band The Soundtrack before going solo in 2009. Almost immediately after venturing off on her own, the singer began landing placements with MTV and recorded her debut solo EP, Talk Of The Town, with Tom Denney. In 2010, Burnett met and began working with New Jersey based producer Rob Freeman. The two have since co-written and recorded two EPs, a theme song and a three song sampler together. In co-writing, Freeman’s brilliance with instruments and composing mixes beautifully with Ally’s ability to craft heartfelt, genuine lyrics and the melodies that accompany them.
Burnett prides herself on making honest music that comes from the heart, and is currently revamping her sound to reflect her growth as both a person and an artist. New music is in the works and a new album is expected by summer 2013.
